This Insitu intervention consisted in the recovery of a landfill on the side of a mountain in Colonia Fátima, a small neighborhood in the suburban township of Ahuachapán, El Salvador. A team of university volunteers and members of the community led the process of design and construction of a community playground, under the mentorship of Fabio López.

Context

The project took place at Los Magueyes, El Salvador, funded and supported by Habitat for Humanity El Salvador.

Program

The workshop took place across nine days. Participants were design and architecture students from San Salvador and Santa Ana, who worked alongside members of the Getsemaní and Fátima communities. The project consisted of a small-scale intervention for a public space in the community, while learning together analogic and digital design and fabrication techniques. The program focused in the processes and ecological concrete mixes using local demolition debris.
