Evaluate patient for necessary removal of helmet: ALOC, Need for airway management, bleeding control 1
RESCUER #1:  applies manual stabilization of helmet and neck, in neutral alignment 1
RESCUER #2: Assess distal sensory, motor, and circulatory status 1
RESCUER #2 Open face shield & removes or cuts chin strap 1
RESCUER #2 ensures that the head is properly  supported to prevent any sudden, uncontrolled  movement during removal 1
RESCUER #1 at the head removes the helmet by  spreading the helmet opening and tilting the helmet gently &  slightly backward to clear the nose. After helmet has cleared the patient’s nose, tilts the helmet back to neutral position and slides helmet off patient 1
RESCUER #1 takes over manual stabilization without movement of neck 1
RESCUER #2 pads behind patients head as needed 1
RESCUER #2: Assess distal sensory, motor, and circulatory status 1

Critical Criteria

●      Did not immediately direct or take manual immobilization of the head

●      Failure to maintain stabilization of the patient’s head in a neutral, in-line position

●      Did not assess motor, sensory and distal circulation before & after helmet removal.

●      Manipulated or moved patient excessively causing potential spinal compromise
